Used Car For Sale By Owner
Up for sale is my mother's little farm truck, named "The Red Champ." This pickup has been in our family for the past 4 years and we have all loved it up to this point.
Here are the quick specs: it is a 2wd XLT longbed, has factory AC, power steering and a 4 speed automatic transmission mated to a 2.4 liter 22RE 4 cylinder engine.
Let's start with the cons. First: this past fall, the engine began having issues. While it does still start up and idle with ease, the engine has a tremble at idle and is making some noise. It still drives, and I still trust it to be driven to its new home, but I highly advise addressing this issue before making a daily driver/ work truck out of it. Next, the power steering pump makes a whine and leaks fluid. It still mostly works, but again, I advise repairing the pump/ leaks for your own comfort. The odometer isn't currently working and it was not working when we purchased it. We verified that the cause is a bad speedometer cable, so it would be a simple fix. Because the odometer hasn't been turning, I would estimate the truck's true miles to be closer to the roughly the 240K mile mark. The AC needs to be recharged and last year the truck was rear-ended at a light which resulted in the rear left corner of the bed to kink in a bit (there are also some holes and rust in this area from the previous owner, I don't know the story behind those). The damage is mostly cosmetic, there was no damage to the frame and the tailgate is still able to be opened (albeit with a little wiggling). Other than those issues, it's just normal 30 year old truck wear (dings/ dents, faded paint, some rust etc...)
Now for the pros: Aside from the power steering, the truck does not leak any other fluids. It has an uncommon automatic column shift transmission that is still in great shape and shows no need for repairs in the foreseeable future. The tires are about 3 years old and still have good tread. It is also a longbed, which adds about an extra foot of cargo capacity. It comes with the bed shell seen in the pictures. It also had a new exhaust fitted last year. The truck was well optioned from the factory, so it would be very practical once fixed up a bit.
The truck's registration expires at the end of February and we have no intention of renewing it for another year. These past few months the truck has been mostly sitting. It is still driven now and then as a backup vehicle and locally as a farm/ errand truck. We are ready to part ways with it since we have other trucks that can fill its role and we do not have the will or time to repair the engine. Again, this truck is still driveable, I just recommend it not be made into a daily driver until at least the engine issue is sorted out.
Feel free to text me anytime with any questions or inquiries. Due to my work schedule, I ask that if you call you do it after 5 PM on weekdays or anytime on the weekends. The truck is located in Erda.

    Vin Info Has Changed

    What’s this mean?

KSL Cars uses VIN info to automatically pull details about vehicles listed on the site. The seller edited some info when they created this listing – the changes they made are marked with this symbol.

This doesn’t always mean something is wrong – we just think you should know that changes were made. But it’s probably a good idea to ask the seller about them. As always, if you don’t feel comfortable about it, do not proceed with the purchase.
