Stick shift drivers, rejoice! Toyota heard the pleas of its fanbase and will finally be releasing a manual transmission 2023 GR Supra. Toyota said the manual option will be available in the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium models, as well as a limited edition, manual only model called the A91-MT.

3.0 MT Models

The 3.0 and 3.0 Premium models feature a 6-speed, 382-horsepower inline-6 engine that delivers 367 pound-feet of torque. The manual transmission has an automatic rev matching function, which can be switched off. The 6-speed gearbox shortens the final drive ratio to 3.46, instead of 3.15 for its automatic counterpart.

If you’re interested in the 2.0-liter turbo-four Supra, Toyota will still have this option. However, it only comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and doesn’t include the premium package upgrades found in the 3.0-liter models.

Special Edition A91-MT Model

Though it comes with everything available in the 3.0 Premium plus trim, the limited edition A91-MT will only be offered with a manual transmission. Its features include:

  • Exclusive brown leather interior
  • Unique red Supra badge
  • Alcantara shift knob
  • JBL sound system
  • 19-inch wheels
  • Red strut tower braces

If you want one of these, be prepared to act fast — only 500 units of the A91-MT edition are set to hit the U.S. in 2022.

New Features

Toyota has taken great care to ensure the manual GR Supra retains its signature fun-to-drive quality, which drivers will notice in a few key updates. Aside from fine tuning the shocks and power steering, Toyota added a new featured called Hairpin+. This allows more freewheel spin when taking tight bends uphill.

The redesigned center console also moves the infotainment controller knob and other buttons to make the manual shifter more accommodating.

Color Options

The MT 3.0 and 3.0 Premium will include all standard Supra colors as well as a new color called Stratosphere Blue. The A91-MT Edition will be available in two colors: Matte White and CU Later Gray.

Price and Release Date

As of this writing, the price and release date for the manual GR Supra were not available. However, Toyota said an announcement will be made in summer 2022, and models should hit dealerships later this year. The current pricing for the 2022 GR Supra 3.0 Premium starts at $55,040 MSRP.
