1996 Ford Ranger XLT 4 wheel drive
This truck runs and drives well but does not pass emissions in Utah. It has not failed emissions, it's just not passing. The monitors (catalyst, oxygen sensor, EGR/VVT) are perpetually incomplete. I would like to keep this truck but after more than a year of trying to get the monitors to pass so it can pass emissions I'm giving up. This would be an excellent vehicle for someone in a part of Utah that does not require emissions, or someone planning on moving somewhere without emissions requirements.
I have replaced things in the last few years while trying to get the monitors to pass:
New windshield (2025)
New starter (2025)
New Battery (early 2025)
All 3 O2 sensors replaced (2024)
Exhaust 'Y' pipe replaced to fix exhaust leak (2024)
IAC valve replaced (2024)
PCV valve replaced (2024)
New clutch (2024)
Replaced broken drivers side locking hub (2024)
New fuel filter (2024)
AC system leak fixed and system recharged (2024) It has worked well since then but it needs to be set to max AC and it takes a while before the air gets cold.
New thermostat (2024)
New coolant temperature sensor (2024)
New spark plugs and wires (2024)
I installed a backup camera and it was great until someone stole the radio out of my truck, so the backup camera is still there but the radio is gone. The headlights will intermittently go on and off unless you put the hi-beams on, they they are steady. I finally tracked the source of this problem down to the steering column headlight switch (which I haven't gotten around to replacing yet).
Questions are welcome. Mileage will go up since I still drive it from time to time. Cash in hand to test drive. (Comes with a box of extra parts and trim)
