1995 Toyota 4Runner 4X4 Project - Classic 22RE Engine!
This 1995 4Runner has been a reliable part of our family for 17 years and is a perfect foundation for its next life as a workhorse or overland rig. It runs the tough-as-nails 22R-E (4-Cylinder), but it needs an experienced mechanic's touch to get it back on the road.
🚨 The Core Issue
Needs Head Gasket Replacement. The vehicle overheated, and a new head gasket is required. The engine is currently running but quickly overheats.
DIY Mechanic: If you handle the work, the cost for head gasket parts is estimated to be only ~$400. Once the head is addressed, you have a solid, reliable Toyota engine ready for years of use.
Why This is a Great Investment (Major Maintenance DONE!)
We are the long-term owners and have proactively maintained this vehicle for nearly two decades. Service records are available. The following expensive repairs were performed:
Service @ 200,000 Miles:
Engine: The engine was pulled for a Head Resurface, New Timing Chain, Water Pump, Oil Pump, and a Full Gasket Set replacement.
Drivetrain: New Clutch and Flywheel installed during the 200k service.
Suspension: New Shocks, Struts and Drivers side front axle installed at that time.
Service at 265,000 miles:
Recent Replacements within the past year:
NEW Water Pump, Radiator, Thermostat, Hoses
NEW Rear Driveshaft and U-Joints
New Battery (11/24)
Other Known Repairs Required
Speedometer Cable (Currently non-functional).
Rear Sway Bar replacement (or removal for off-road purposes).
Cosmetic wear consistent with a 30 year old, well-used 1995 family vehicle.
Rear tailgate window mechanism is missing.
If you know the 22R-E, you know this is a platform worth saving. We are transparent about the work needed and the history of the truck.
