2005 Volvo XC90 V8 AWD – 7 Passenger – Strong V8, Well-Maintained

We’re selling our 2005 Volvo XC90 V8 (4.4L) with 7 seats although the back two seats are only small enough for children. This has been a great family vehicle for us over the last 6 years, and overall it’s in pretty good condition for its age. It’s comfortable, safe, and powerful, and it still drives well. We’re selling it simply because we no longer need it, and it has been sitting unused for about 5 months, so we decided it’s time to let it go.

Known Issues (Full Disclosure)

We want to be upfront so there are no surprises:

• Check Engine Light On

The car is currently showing codes P0171 and P0174 (system too lean).

We took it to mechanics on 10/31/2024 and 11/06/2024 to diagnose and address the issue. The check engine light persists. Since we ended up not needing the vehicle, we stopped chasing the issue and parked the car. It has been sitting for about five months.

• Occasional Jerk

Once in a while, the transmission will jerk slightly between gears. This has been happening sporadically for years, has always been minor and infrequent, and never left us stranded. We’ve driven the car like this for six years without that issue worsening.

Summary

This XC90 is a strong-running V8 Volvo with excellent tires, a new battery, fresh oil, and a solid maintenance history. It does have a check engine light and an occasional transmission quirk, which are fully disclosed and reflected in the price. It would be a good fit for someone who’s mechanically inclined, wants a winter vehicle, or is looking for a safe, roomy SUV at a fair price.
