This 1985 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce was purchased from the original owner of the car in December of 2020. It is currently the lowest milage example of a Series 3 Spider with only 48K miles on the clock. The seller has just completed an extensive restoration lasting 2 years costing in excess of $11k including a full repaint in Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red (details of the restoration below).
The Pininfarina-designed bodywork was finished from the factory in Alfa Grigio Metalico (metallic silver – photo of the original paint code decal included), but was color changed as part of the restoration to Red. Exterior details include a black convertible soft top, a front air dam, power-operated side mirrors, and the coveted rear foam spoiler delete. It rolls down the road on original Silver 14″ Campagnolo Daytona alloy wheels. And comes to a stop with 4 wheel disk brakes with new pads and fluids.
The cabin features bucket seats that were upholstered in black leather with black/red quilting stich seat and headrest covers. Amenities include power windows, vent windows, air conditioning, and a digital clock. A new Bluetooth stereo and speakers was installed in 2023.
The three-spoke steering wheel was refinished in 2023 and frames Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer (displaying the current milage of 48,160 miles) and a tachometer as well as gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The tach is intermittently operational and somewhat temperamental.
The 2.0-liter DOHC inline-four features Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection for a factory rating of 115 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque. Work performed in 2023 included replacing the spark plugs, valve cover gasket, air intake boot, fuel strainer, fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel sending unit, fuel lines, ignition switch, battery hold-downs, and hood seal.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission fluid and differential fluid were changed and the exhaust heat shields and transmission mounts were replaced in June 2023. The seller notes an intermittent second gear grind.
