Our beloved 2008 Ford Taurus X Limited – the reliable family wagon that's survived road trips, kids, and even a sneaky Utah hail storm.
Important note up front (full transparency): This car has a branded title because the hail damage a few years back was enough for insurance to total it based on repair costs vs. value at the time. The damage is 100% cosmetic – just those classic dimples/dents here and there on the hood, roof, etc. No frame, structural, or mechanical issues. It's always passed inspection and it's been driving great ever since we've owned it.
Quick Specs (the good stuff):
3.5L V6 engine (263 hp – smooth, old-school naturally aspirated power, no turbo to fuss over!)
6-speed automatic transmission (No CVT either)
Front-Wheel Drive
Seats 7 real people (third row works for kids or for adults on shorter trips)
Huge cargo space – seats fold flat for massive loads (~85 cu ft!)
Real-world ~20 MPG combined
In 2011, I flew to San Jose, bought this from Sunnyvale Ford for my wife, and drove it overnight back to Utah. She's loved it ever since, and I've kept up with regular maintenance – Mobil 1 synthetic oil changes, quality filters, transmission fluid & coolant flushed every ~60k miles, all work done at Burt Brothers in Farmington. Engine is clean, no leaks, no smoke – runs like a champ.
Recent repair highlights:
At 190,508 miles: Alignment, front shocks and struts replaced, lower control arm replaced, tie rods and tie rod ends replaced
At 189,349 miles: Power steering serviced, serpentine belt replaced, transmission fluid changed
At 181,170 miles: Spark plugs replaced
At 175,422: Alignment, sway bar links replaced, front brake rotors replaced
At 168,605 miles: Oxygen sensor replaced, intake manifold gasket replaced
At 150,825 miles: engine mounts replaced, transmission mounts replaced
At 135,432 miles: power steering fluid flushed/changed
She's an "experienced" 18-year-old now, with a couple quirks:
Seat heaters? Retired (winter cuddles help)
Passenger front seat stuck all the way back (awesome for tall riders, less so for short ones)
Those hail battle scars mentioned above (but hey, it gives her character – and explains the branded title)
The features that still rock:
Rear DVD player flip-down screen (includes two IR headsets – silence the "Let It Go" marathon!)
6-disc CD changer (so retro!)
Touch-screen A/V in the console
Super-cold A/C
Power windows, locks, mirrors
Driver's seat memory – auto-scoots back for easy exit
Keypad driver's door entry (no keys in the rain!)
Homelink button in driver's sun visor
Rear parking sensors
Automatic headlights
This is a no-drama, space-for-days family vehicle that's been babied and is priced accordingly (lower because of the title/history – great deal for someone who wants reliability without new-car prices). Perfect for big families, hauling gear, or budget-conscious buyers who don't mind a few dimples and squeaks. Message me to schedule a test drive. Serious inquiries only – no trades. Cash only. No Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or other apps.
