I find Mercedes SL-class (2003-2013) 2-seat convertibles with automatic retractable hardtops and put them in tip-top condition, as a retirement hobby. I only buy cars with low-mileage, dealership maintained with records, original or long-time owners. I buy most in the desert Southwest, usually Arizona, Nevada, California. These tend to be the very clean toys of older wealthy people. See the last few photos for examples of cars I’ve had in the past 18 months since I retired. This beautiful SL550 was bought by the original owner who kept it for all but the last 2000 miles. Unfortunately, he died of Alzheimer’s and his wife sold it to his best friend. I obtained it in Arizona.

This car split time between Portland and Phoenix and reportedly never experienced snow and rarely experienced rain. It was kept in climate-controlled garages with both owners in both cities. It is an exceptionally clean car.

Records show maintenance up to date and much of it happens within the last 2k miles or so, including: Front brakes/rotors, serpentine belt, transmission fluid/filter, hydraulic suspension fluid/filter, Continental Extreme Contact tires, new starter motor, new suspension hydraulic pump, and more. The car will go a new owner with fresh oil and brake fluid flush.

Features include: Keyless Go, Parktronic (parking sensors), Distronic adaptive cruise control, bi-xenon headlights with cornering illumination, roll bar, wind deflector, cruise control, Sirius/XM radio, heated multi-contour massaging leather seats, and lots of stuff you just have to see. The color is Alabaster White with two-tone beige interior. For some reason, Mercedes white always looks better than any other type of white car.

5.5 liter engine (M273) with 7-speed transmission, ABC suspension, electronic slip control, comfort and sport drivability, etc., etc. This is a smooth-driving luxury sports car with 382 horsepower. Very quick and powerful, yet drives very comfortably.
