2003 Ford E350 1-ton van. 5.4L V8 with 202,700 miles
ARB air locker; amazing traction allowing you to get this van a lot further into the backcountry over a regular van
ARB air compressor; can fill up tires.
ARB rear differential cover
4.56 differential gears: great for mountain driving and getting into the backcountry
Toyo MT's 265/75 R16 (will need replaced soon'ish)
Autometer tachometer
Autometer transmission coolant temperature gauge
cold AC
heat works well
Sportsmobile swivel seat brackets
custom console pouch; original console included.
receiver hitch
2010 Ford van front radius arm upgrade: these are required when a lift kit is installed so it's ready and will save $$ on total kit cost
comes with engine scan tool
fresh oil change
Camping setup:
Rear bed platform made from 80/20 aluminum (light and strong!) and is easily removable if needing to haul stuff. Fits queen size mattress.
6" memory foam queen mattress included; super comfortable!
48" fridge slide out and fits a 65L Yeti (or similar) cooler perfectly (cooler not included)
lots of storage underneath
Set up for 5 passenger; 2 front, 3 back. Rear seat is easily removable by quick release.
We have owned this van for 5 years and 40k trouble free miles; only had to replace the battery and coolant hoses.
The previous owner did a LOT of work to this van including lots of maintenance in preparation for extensive traveling. Unfortunately, Covid hit and his plans changed and he had to sell the van. I have a stack of receipts and maintenance log to share.
The not so good:
windshield has major cracks and will need replaced
paint peeling in areas
surface rust in a few areas; no rot
tires are worn and will need to be replaced
electric door locks don't work; we just manually locked/unlocked
Check engine light for no catalytic convertor (thanks to a meth head in Tulsa, OK for stealing it): runs great without it but if you need to smog it, you will need to install a catalytic convertor to pass emissions
exhaust rattle at start up when exhaust is cold
driver's window tint has bubbles
4.56 gears cause speedometer and odometer to be off; registers faster than actual. Adding bigger tires would help this or there might be a way to recalibrate speedo?
Our family of 4 (and 2 dogs) has used this van for 5 years and has been on lots of family adventures around Colorado, the Utah desert, and beyond. 2 years ago, we took it to the tip of Baja and lived out of it for 3 weeks with no issues and drove close to 4000 miles. It has been a great setup for our family and we have pulled our raft trailer with it many times. Our family dynamic is changing and we are needing something different. I am also needing something with a bigger towing capacity.
This van has a simple and functioning buildout for camping/exploring; it is tried and tested. It's a great setup for a small family or a couple. If it were only 2 people, you can easily remove the 3-person bench seat (quick release) and have a lot more space.
If I were to keep the van, I would add a 2"-3" lift kit and some 33" tires and call it good. The 33" tires would recalibrate the speedometer back to factory calibration.
I would not hesitate driving this van cross country today; it's ready to go. Other than needing a windshield and some tires soon, it's ready to find a new home and some new adventures!
