My loss is your gain! I’ve owned this car since 2019 and planned on keeping it forever, but life had other plans for me, it’ll be sad to see her go. Do you want a car that will go anywhere with less maintenance needs than a Jeep and less cost than a Toyota? You’re looking at it! This Xterra has gone everywhere I’ve ever tried to take it with ease. Deep snow, dirt roads, rocks, mountains, deserts, you name it. This is the Off Road trim which gives it a lower gear ratio (better for getting over obstacles), a factory e-locker in the rear, an electronic transfer case with 4-low, fog lights, a front passenger seat that folds down completely forward (allowing you to haul 8’ lumber INSIDE the vehicle) and it has a fantastic 6-speed manual transmission with a clutch cancel button (allowing you to start the vehicle without engaging the clutch when you’re on sketchy offroad terrain). The dual glove boxes give you plenty of space for both paperwork and extra napkins! Did your tent blow over in a storm? I’m 6’ and can sleep in the X comfortably with the seats down. Need to haul a canoe around? Throw it on top! Got a smelly pair of trail runners, a dripping wet-suit, a dirty diaper, or some other undesirable object you’d rather not keep inside? Toss it in the built-in vented box on the roof! Got snowed in overnight? (see picture) No need to dig her out, just throw her in 4-low with the locker and she'll crawl out like she's on dry ground. She’s 21 years old this year so she’s got some character and personality to her, but that VQ40 engine is solid with oil reports from BlackStone Labs to prove it! She still has the original jack kit under the back seat (no missing parts) and the original first aid kit in the rear hatch (which might need some items updated/replaced…) No codes, and the only dash light is for a bad TPMS sensor I haven’t bothered to find or fix.
Modifications:
XD KMC wheels wrapped with 4 year old 265/70/R17 Falken Wilpeak AT3W’s with 7/32” of tread left (original depth was 14/32”)
1.5” wheel spacers
2” spacer/extended shackle lift
Rear diff breather tube run into RR tail light
Rear sway bar delete
Dash cam with front and rear cameras (instruction manual included)
Leather wrapped key
Full size KO2 on the spare wheel with plenty of tread left
The quirks:
Minor electrical gremlins, most likely from a poor radio intall from a previous owner (dome lights don’t work, back up camera comes on every time you turn it on, if you hit a pothole a mystery loose ground will make a slight buzz on the speakers…)
Dented rear bumper
Small dents on right side from bikes falling off the roof
Major work done under my ownership:
New catalytic converters summer of ‘25
New fuel pump in ‘23
New transfer case relay in ‘20
Miscellaneous sensors
New greaseable ball joints, outer tie rods, front sway bar end links, and driveshaft u-joint
Extras not pictured include:
Haynes manual
“New” rear bumper
Rear sway bar
Extra u-joints
OEM (Luk) Clutch replacement kit
Miscellaneous gaskets
Miscellaneous fluids (gear oil, ATF, coolant…)
Oil filters
