This noble mechanical beast is a 2000 Ford Expedition XLT 4x4, built back when SUVs were made mostly of steel, optimism, and engines large enough to tow small planets.
It runs strong, drives well, and has plenty of life left in it. It was previously part of a government fleet, meaning it lived a surprisingly responsible life and received regular scheduled maintenance from people whose entire job was maintaining vehicles. Not a bad résumé for a 26-year-old SUV!
The Important Mechanical Things:
• 5.4L V8 engine (reliably enthusiastic)
• Automatic transmission with overdrive
• Control-Trac 4x4 system
• Seats 5 humans comfortably
• Large 30-gallon fuel tank for long journeys or avoiding frequent gas station visits
Useful Features:
• Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires with lots of life left (excellent on dirt or pavement).
• Tow package with tow hooks, and a rear cargo area almost the size of a short-bed pickup truck!
• Roof rack for gear you swear you’ll use more often.
• Power windows and locks.
• Adjustable pedals (great for tall drivers, short drivers, or families sharing vehicles).
• Premium AM/FM stereo with cassette player, for those who remember greatness, but it does come with a Bluetooth device that allows you to connect your phone and play music via Bluetooth.
• Rear wiper and liftgate with flip-up glass.
The Honest Section (Because Every Older Vehicle Has One):
This Expedition is dependable, but it is not pretending to be new. See the photos.
• Gas gauge doesn’t currently work. We just track mileage and fill up every few hundred miles.
• Door ajar light says a door is open when it is not.
• Sticker residue from previous decals.
• Some minor rust and paint wear consistent with age.
• Carpet has stains, but floor mats cover things nicely.
None of these affect how it runs or drives.
For its age, it is in solid condition and runs very well. A great option for a first vehicle, winter driver, second vehicle, summer driver, third vehicle, family vehicle, fourth vehicle, hunting rig, work SUV, or anyone who appreciates a practical and reliable vehicle.
$2,490 OBO
Note: It does have a clean paper title, but the carfax report says it was issued a salvage title when it was 1 year old. See the photo of the title. I purchased the carfax report so that you can see it for yourself for free. Because it was part of a Utah government fleet for 25 years, nobody knows if it was in an accident 25 years ago, but we do know that it is in excellent mechanical condition. If it was in an accident 25 years ago, it must have been minor as there is no evidence mechanically. It's an awesome vehicle. Come see it and drive it, and we'll show you.
