New tires, new rotors and breaks on rear, newer alternator. Runs great. There is an emission code that has been coming on intermittently for years. Rear oil seal leak, we add a quart every few months or so.
Transmission fluid hot warning came on recently. We pulled over and looked it up in the manual. The light turned off shortly after. We continued on the road and it was a little rough shifting between 1st and 2nd gears. After the vehicle sat for a few hours, the shifting went back to normal. When we did the diagnosis with a scanner, it shifted fine until the transmission temperature went up high. Then it did the same thing. That was after about 20 minutes or so, mostly at higher speeds. That’s why we think it is the cooler and needs the valve refresh kit. The radiator temp was okay, but it is old and may have contributed to some of the problem. It is possible that the torque converter needs to be replaced, but the mechanic I was working with suggested the cooler, valve refresh kit, new filter, new fluid and radiator. He didn’t say that the transmission itself was damaged. He said the slipping between gears is likely due to the fluid being hot and not acting as it normally would.
One other thing. We redid the front end a few years ago. Tie rods, control arms, etc. we also beefed it up. Because of this the steering is tight and doesn’t have the same turning radius. We replaced the Pitman and I think the idler arm , but didn’t have the torque wrench big enough to do it to spec. We just had to do our best guess. I never had that checked. The steering has an intermittent clunk to it. I replaced part of it, but it might need a different part replaced. You could see with a test drive.
