2008 Lexus LS600hL | Rare, flagship Lexus hybrid | 131,300 miles | Clean Title
Selling my 2008 Lexus LS600hL with 131,300 miles. This is Lexus’s long-wheelbase flagship hybrid sedan, and if you know these cars, you know how uncommon they are (~2,000 made worldwide), especially with extensive records and many original accessories still included. I want to be as upfront, candid, and thorough as possible in this listing so interested buyers know exactly what I know about the car. I encourage you to read through this post for many of the details.
So, you may be wondering, why I am looking to sell one of the greatest cars Lexus ever made? It has a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT: the stored code is P1083 – Hydrocarbon adsorber valve bank 2 stuck open (you may consider reviewing the Lexus forums for owner commentary on this issue). That's it . . . . As you'd expect, I can't reregister it in the coming months in Salt Lake County, and the nature of my job precludes me from playing the expired registration game or registering it to a county other than where I live. Were it not for this issue, I would drive this car until the wheels fell off.
The car comes with:
2 keys
Large stack of maintenance records dating back to the original owner
Printed CarFax report (I cannot send it, but it is included)
Original floor mats, including both the shag mats and regular carpet mats
Original window sticker
Original first-release magazine brochure
Two original owner’s manuals
Lug nut key for wheel locks
Set of two original headphones for TV system
Major maintenance highlights:
Air suspension replaced through Lexus at ~100k miles
Hybrid battery replaced through Lexus at approximately 122k miles
Regular oil changes since original owner (~5,000 mile intervals IIRC, but you can verify)
This is the greatest car I ever have or ever will own. It does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds despite weighing over 5,000 pounds, has nearly 440 horsepower, and has been well loved and is in generally good condition in light of its age. You don't have to take my word for it, I think most of you would agree upon seeing it.
I am the third owner. The original owner was a wealthy man in the oil industry in Colorado. I was informed this car was primarily used to chauffer clients on long-haul drives from Denver airport to various sites around the state. The second owner is the gentleman I purchased the car from. He owned an LS600 previously, wanted another with less miles, and was the original owner's acquaintance/neighbor. He was the most meticulous stranger I have met in some time, hence why he retained all the original papers and maintenance records since this car was first owned. I have owned the car for 3 years, and the car has been garaged for virtually its whole life.
I had a 7-year ceramic coating done within the last couple of years, and it still beads water nicely. The interior is in good condition with no tears or holes in the leather. Interior is light grey with dark wood trim.
The windshield was just replaced and is an OEM (Lexus-manufactured) windshield. As you will note in photos, there are three independent blemishes on the rear bumper. Tires only have about 10k miles on them and brakes are in good shape with ~9mm front and rear from what I recall. Two of the wheels slowly leak air as of late, and I have to inflate them with a battery-powered compressor about once a week. I expect this is attributable to corrosion on the chrome wheels, which have also suffered some curb rash. When I had the current Bridgestone Turanzas put on through Costco, they applied bead sealer, and the leaking air issue was not a problem at that time.
From my understanding, this car may make the most sense for one or more of the following buyers:
Someone in a non-emissions county, or someone willing to register it accordingly (for example Summit or Tooele County; the nature of my job prevents me from playing these sorts of games)
Someone mechanically inclined who is comfortable diagnosing and repairing the seized actuator / stuck valve issue causing the code
A Lexus enthusiast who appreciates the rarity, engineering, and comfort of the LS600hL platform
This is a rare car with a lot going for it, including documented history, recent major Lexus-performed maintenance, and a generally well-kept interior. It is not perfect, and I am trying to represent it honestly. To the best of my knowledge and belief, I am sharing what I know about the car, but it is being sold AS IS, with no representations or warranties.
