Clean, well running, and fully loaded turbo-diesel TDI Station Wagon. This was my brother's daily driver until he got a new car and I'm helping him sell this one.
This Mark 4 (Mk4) Jetta comes with the 1.9 liter (ALH) turbo diesel engine, which is probably the most reliable engine Volkswagen ever made and benefits from diesel engine longevity (comparing diesel to gasoline engines is like comparing the lifespan of cats to dogs, diesels just live longer). It also gets great gas mileage, and my brother was able to get 50 mpg on a road trip to Los Angeles when he was trying to drive economically. The shortest lived part of this very solid drive train is typically the transmission, but that was replaced at 180k miles and is shifting smooth with lots of life left. My bother took good care of this car with new break pads and engine mounts 2k miles miles ago. I made sure this car was running great before listing in and put in a new valve cover gasket and brand new Duracell battery with a 3 year warranty. The final consideration about this engine is that it is very easy to tune to make more power if that's your thing. All it needs is new fuel injectors and a tune to start making big power, but it is completely stock at the moment.
This car came fully loaded a with leather interior, cruise control, power opening sunroof, adjustable lumbar support, heated seats and heated mirrors. All of the features work, and the air conditioning blows both hot and cold. It is also the rare station wagon body type that adds a lot of practicality. The back seats fold down resulting an a remarkably large cargo capacity for such a compact car. The interior is in really good condition with just a little damage to the leather on the drivers seat (visible in photos). One thing Volkswagen has always excelled at it making small cars feel spacious and my brother and I (both over 6 foot) fit very comfortable in this vehicle.
The white exterior of the car is great for keeping cool during Utah summers. The exterior is in really good shape for a car of this age and really only suffers from a few small paint chips/imperfections (only visible if you get really close) and a small crack in the front bumper (visible in the photos). It also comes equipped with roof rails to further increase the practicality and cargo capacity.
This car it is ready to go as a practical and economical daily commuter, long haul road tripper, or unique tuner car. It would also be great for anyone whose fancy in tickled by a cute little station wagon that sounds more macho than most trucks on the road (it does sound distinctly diesel like). This car has something of a cult following because of the diesel engine and is as clean, well preserved, and well equipped an example of a car of this generation (before any of the Diesel Gate issues) as you are likely to find anywhere, so I'm asking $5,000, but feel free to make a reasonable offer.
