2006 Toyota 4Runner – Well-Maintained, Great Project or Engine Swap Candidate

I’ve owned this 2006 Toyota 4Runner since it was just two years old, and it’s been an incredibly reliable SUV. I’m only selling because it’s time for me to upgrade.

This 4Runner has had a ton of maintenance and upgrades over the years and has been consistently taken care of. It’s a solid platform for someone looking for a project, engine swap, or a capable off-road build.

The Situation:

The engine has around 300k miles (which speaks to how solid these are). It recently started burning some oil and developed a misfire on cylinders 1 and 2, causing it to run rough. It will likely need engine work or replacement.

I originally planned to drop in a low-mileage JDM engine (typically around $2,000) and keep it going for another couple hundred thousand miles, but decided to go a different route instead.
