1991 Military HMMWV (HUMVEE) M998 Dream Project for sale
This is a VERY low mileage M998 with less than 10K miles! The engine was replaced with a new GEP 6.5 Diesel and matching transmission. We drove this truck from California out to Utah and she runs great. Arriving in Utah we started acquiring parts to make her the ultimate offroad vehicle than you can drop the kids at school with, go get groceries, or go to the movies in.
The vision:
We wanted a HMMWV that was easy to drive, comfortable in the summer heat and winter cold. We wanted to be able to go hard core off roading and still drive around town and go on dates. We wanted to be able to use it as a truck or take a bunch of people to a party. All the while looking like a military truck. We also wanted to be able to go deep into the mountains and have a base camp where we could set-up and go off during the day then come back to camp. So we bought a matching military trailer that we were going to make into a camp rig. This is a running and driving fully registered/plated truck transferable to any state. To do all this we acquired the following and were about to install or have already installed these expensive parts.
Parts installed or to be installed:
• To be comfortable you need heat and you need A/C. To accomplish this we have acquired a dual HVAC system. The factory rear mounted condenser with fans that mounts inside the rear quarter panel. This system is brand new. A matching new engine mounted compressor is ready to go as well. Additionally we have a front mounted system with both heat and air also brand new in the box.
• HMMWVs are loud so we acquired enough sound and heat deadening material to cover the entire interior. We also acquired the factory heat and sound mats to go over that!
• The early seats are not very comfortable so we have brand new high back tan canvas OEM seats as well as the bracket to mount unused.
• We replaced the rear seats but left the fold away option so we could hide them away for more cargo room if needed.
• We also have custom made rear troop seats to fit the 4-door set-up adding 4 more rear seats (8 total).
• We wanted more than a two door so we acquired and have started to install new 4-doors and matching top and rear curtain as well as the needed rear firewall for that conversion.
• The rear tailgate was in bad shape so we acquired and painted a new one which is installed.
• We installed a new snorkel system so the truck can be driven under water up to the windshield.
• HMMWVs can overheat so we installed the Paradox by Design cooling upgrade system.
• The stock 3-speed transmission is new but we wanted an overdrive so we have a newly rebuilt 4L80 4-speed and matching torque converter ready to bolt in.
• We have installed the heavy duty 20 bolt wheels and low mileage ‘D’ rated BFGs to go on in addition to the tires on the truck now. These have the run-flat inserts in case your tires get shot out!
• We have a factory hydraulic winch ready to install in the front. Included is the factory winch controller.
• We have a new Luvern Bull Bar (push bar) ready to mount on front.
• It has LED headlights already installed.
• New front and rear retractable seat belts are installed.
• New Class III tow hitch mounted below the military pintle hitch.
• The entire rear and front suspension was replaced by the military before we bought it.
• We have racks and racks of mostly new parts to numerous to mention here that go with the truck. Well over $25000 in just parts.
Trailer
The trailer is a matching unit made for the HMMWV, it runs on the same size wheels and tires (minimizing the requirement for spares). It comes with the overhead bars to add canvas or our plan was an overland pop out tent. It has landing gear front and rear to make it stable without being hitched up. It has a built in hydraulic brake system as well as dual hand brakes for moving around manually. It even shares the same tail lights as the HMMWV and plugs right in.
