1995 Toyota 4runner.
Needs new engine possibly or could be fixed by a home mechanic that has experience and knows whats wrong.
The Good:
This thing is real clean inside and out. The interior is very clean and has leather seats. The two front seats have torn leather but can be replaced, 30 years of sitting will do that to them. The three rear seats are like brand new. The carpet is very clean and the interior has just been taken care of its whole life. All of the electronic switches and everything work except for the rear window, they are notorious for going out but can be fixed. but other then that all the other windows, mirrors, lights etc. work. The exterior is also very clean and is a beautiful red color with golden emblems that really just look amazing. all of the exterior lights work and only a front blinker light has a chip. missing a few trim pieces but was planning to strip the rest off cause they are kinda bulky and weird looking. All the glass is intact and it does have a sunroof that works. The frame is solid with only some surface rust in a few places but over all is very solid and black. super rare for these to have good solid frames. I bought some Brand New KO2's for this thing and they make it look very good. i bought for the tires $1000 so I am definitely loosing money on this car in general but its either this or my working tacoma. In general it is a SUPER clean car that represents the pinnacle of 90's Toyota.
The not so Good:
I bought with a blown head gasket and took the engine out and did a full rebuild. I decked the heads and block and put a multi layer steel head gasket in. Also I replaced the factory exhaust with long tube header to get rid of the wrap around exhaust that leads to head gasket failure. New bearing all around piston rings and all the seals and gaskets you could thing of. New water pump, timing belt, starter, battery, fuel injectors and some other things like that I'm forgetting. I got it running and it ran good and everything worked but it developed a knocking and i could figure out where. I pulled the oil pan and took the rod bearings out and they looked fine so i dont think it is rod knock so i don't know what it is. the rod and rod caps are currently out of the car so it does not currently run and will need a tow. The brakes and shocks probably need a refresh as well.
I am leaving on a 2 year mission and I need to sell it and move on. I had some very cool plans for this thing a few years down the road including some custom long travel and some custom bumpers. It is a very good candidate for a motor swap or to fix it if your savvy enough. I am very disappointed i ran out of time but i know the right person could make this thing a very clean example of the 1995 second gen 4runners. So far this is one of the cleanest ones i've seen on the market or on the roads. I would love to see this thing not get scrapped or parted out because more and more of these are disappearing and we need to keep them alive. If you have any questions let me know I would love to answer them.
