1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Convertible. I love this car. Wherever I drive it it gets comments and brings back fond memories for people. It’s even one prizes in three local car shows. I have owned it since about 2013. 1984 was the last year they were badged as Rabbit, the next year they became the Cabriolet. The odometer hasn’t worked for a while, so the mileage is incorrect. It probably has only been driven 10,000 miles more than the mileage shows. I drive it less and less each year. I’ve done a lot of work on it over those years. Most of the work is captured in the paperwork and in the pictures. One negative is that it will not pass emissions. Because I drive it seasonally the fuel injector would get gummed up. I was advised to replace it with a carburetor several years ago. It runs great, has all the other quirks and drawbacks of a 32 year-old car, and the carburetor cannot be adjusted to meet current emissions standards, so it won’t pass. If you live outside Utah or Salt Lake County, this might not be a problem for you. If you do, it should age out soon. You could also get classic car designation through your insurance company.
You currently doesn’t have the stock bumpers. I took them off to put Eurostyle bumpers on, and just liked it this way. I still have the bumpers and will include those.
PROS
Relatively recent overhaul of all seals, balls, joints.
No leaks
New battery
Completely upgraded suspension
CONS
Odometer doesn’t work.
Doesn’t pass emissions
