1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsburg Edition (Weekender) – 2003 Subaru WRX Turbo Swap
$30,000 OBO – Clean Title
Selling my 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsburg Edition (227,000 van miles) with a 2003 Subaru WRX 2.0L Turbo engine conversion (87,000 Subaru engine miles). This is a rare, well-sorted camper that has modern turbo power while keeping the classic Westy charm.
About the Wolfsburg Edition:
The Wolfsburg Edition was a premium factory package produced in limited numbers to showcase Volkswagen’s highest trim level at the time. These vans were assembled with upgraded features not found on standard Vanagons, including:
Wolfsburg Weekender Layout: Unlike the full Westfalia (with stove, sink, cabinets), the Wolfsburg Edition offers flexible "no-kitchen" camper layout, featuring a rear-facing seat, fold-away table to accommodate more open space for passengers and gear, ideal for weekend trips.
Seating for Six: It includes a rear-facing "jump seat" behind the driver and a full-width rear bench that converts into a bed, allowing it to seat six and sleep four.
Pop-Top Roof: Provides standing headroom and an upper bunk for two, a signature Westfalia feature.
Removable Cooler: Came with a portable electric cooler and a second battery system to power it, allowing for flexible camping. This stock cooler has been removed.
Interior Styling: Unique corduroy upholstery and a specific Wolfsburg emblem.
The 1985 Wolfsburg Weekender blends standard Vanagon versatility with Westfalia camping features (pop-top, sleeping) but prioritizes open living space and seating for daily use over a built-in kitchen, making it a highly versatile and sought-after model. They are increasingly hard to find and are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Who wants to cook inside your vehicle anyway??
Highlights:
2003 Subaru WRX 2.0L turbo engine
Strong power, smooth acceleration, highway capable
Wolfsburg Edition Westfalia (factory camper)
Sleeps 4 (2 down, 2 up in the pop-top)
Pop-top tent in excellent condition (no rips or tears)
Upholstery in okay condition for its age
