1939 MGTB / 1946MGTC

The Car is listed and Titled as a 1946MGTC,

But as I have worked on this car and replaced many parts I have found that everything points to it being a 1939 MGTB, which they produced for a VERY short period before WW2, producing only about 400 of these cars.

Unfortunately the engine is a replacement XPAG engine but still the right engine for the car, and the frame number has been scratched off as well as the identification plate so there is no way to 100% verify that it is a TB.

Even still, What a cool Car!

Here's the work I've done since I bought it 3 years ago

-Replaced the Gas tank with A New Stainless steel gas tank (no more rust!)

-Replaced the master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders and a few rubber hosed brake lines

Some brake pads are also new and I've got another set of NEW brake pads for the other wheels.

-Repainted the wheels and has 4 NEW tires installed ready to be used

-Pulled the engine out to do some extensive work to it, I didn't rebuild it but I did replace the core plugs which were leaking some nasty coolant, repainted the engine and the surrounding components (EVERYTHING WAS STRIPPED TO BARE METAL)

I wanted it to last a long time

-Rebuilt the Carburators

-Rebuilt the Generator (New Armature & Brushes)

Starter moter was repainted

New Belt

I also installed a new clutch new clutch pressure plate new clutch bearing

I Rebuilt the rear axles, and installed improved sealed bearings for the rear wheels

Ive also Installed a modern Oil filter kit that uses a common oil filter and it has fresh NEW oil as of right now.

I do have quite a few extra parts like the Speedometer, the Spare wheel, some rear differential bearings and gears as well as some front axles which are included

All in all, hundreds of hours of work was put into this car with thousands of dollars worth of parts.

It DOES run, and it DOES stop (brakes are a bit spongy but may need to just be bled out.

The car does have an issue bogging down after driving for about 10-15 minutes when it gets hot, I'm still not too sure what the problem is but it does run fine before that happens. May need a new coil or condenser or maybie it's just the fuel pump, (not too sure). It probably wouldn't take much more effort to get it running great. I've never had a problem starting it up after it sits for a while though.

But I'll tell you what! this car is a lot of fun to drive when it's working well! you can actually fold the windshield forward allowing all the wind to hit your face, and it feels pretty sporty too, the steering feels great hugging those corners

There is another issue, that being the exterior paint does have some problems, there are a few areas where it is cracking and peeling off (see photos), the left front fender (facing the car from behing) has some rust holes as well. I believe the car has been repainted 3 or 4 times. In the places the paint has peeled, you can see the metal is actually in pretty good shape, Not sure how the rest of the car is though.

It would make a Great restoration project!

But even with the exterior paint not doing so well, Just take a look at the Engine Bay! It's so clean you could eat off it! Most of the time it's quite the opposite, usually a good car exteriorwise but a rusty, grimy, oily engine bay - NOT this car though! You get to work with a clean engine unlike most of these cars.

But I've done my fare share of work into this car and I'm ready for it to move on to it's next owner who hopefully will compete the work I have painstakingly put into this thing.

I would love to see this thing at it's full potential.
