1965 VW Variant S “Squareback.” I have owned this VW for about 15 years. It is a rare car in the US. I believe 1965 was the first year they started importing the squareback to the US and only a few thousand made it in 1965. It was imported in the early 2000s from Japan. Since I have owned it the car has been always been garaged and now that I live in Utah I never drive it in the snow and wait until the salt is off the road. The squareback runs and drives great. It always starts up and is a great cruiser. About 7 years ago I had the engine rebuilt when I lived in CA and it was upgraded from the original 1500cc to 1800cc. The clutch was also rebuilt. It has dual Weber carburetors. It will reach freeway speeds with ease. Brakes work great. Recent tune up. Mileage is listed at about 39000, it has obviously rolled over at some point. Since the engine rebuild I have driven it about 4000 miles. It does leak a small amount of oil maybe a drop or two after a long drive. Doesn’t burn any oil. Heater works great as well. Very original car. All glass is original except the windshield which was replaced at some point in its life. The interior could use some work but I wanted to keep it original so I haven’t replaced anything like the ripped front seat or headliner. It is missing the dash pad, but again I wanted to keep it original so I never bought a replacement, but that would be an easy fix. I like the rougher surfer vibe. There is some rust present. Most noticeably on the doors and the back bumper. Underneath there is some rust and the previous owner had repairs done to the pan. There is a rust hole under the drivers side rear seat per the pictures. Besides that there isn’t any holes I am aware of. Other small things it needs. The front yellow fog lights stopped working recently. Probably just a new fuse but I haven’t had the time to check. (I may fix this by the time it sells) The passengers side window crank also fell off but it can be added back on easily as well, just needs a small part to stay attached. The back reverse light on the bumper had never worked since I have owned it. Overall it’s a great car and I have loved having it for the past 15 years. The reason I am selling it is because I just don’t use it. I start it and drive it around the block every few weeks to keep it going but besides that it doesn’t get used as often as it should. Clean Utah title in my name. I am open to offers. If you want more pictures or would like videos just let me know. Happy to answer any questions.
Thank you.
