This first generation Explorer has served me so well for the last couple of years. It’s a hard thing to list it, but I’m moving out of state and can’t take it with me.
It starts up every time and hasn’t ever let me down. It’s been daily driven since I got it two years ago and it’s been great.
I’ve taken it on some mind off-road trips and it handles them like a champ. The back is a great size for sleeping for two so camping in this thing is great.
It’s a fun car to drive around town and on some mild off-road trails.
The motor sounds great and makes no bad noises.
I just replaced the oil and greased the boots.
That’s not to say it’s without its problems. I’ll list here some of the work done on it and some of the problems it has:
Work done last year:
-Replaced sway bar, tie rods, tie rod ends
Problems:
-The motor and transmission both leak a bit, but I always just keep them topped off and they go fine.
-Transmission could shift smoother, but it’s got lots of life left in it.
-Bumps are a little rough when hitting a pothole or something like that—shocks could be upgraded.
-Belt squeaks sometimes, and especially when A/C is running. Fixed it last year but it just started doing it again. Pulleys just need to be adjusted.
-It gets a small bit of mild shakes around 60-70 mph, which I think better shocks will improve.
-It’s got a bit of body rust under the rear seat doors, as shown in pictures.
-Windows go up and down with help.
-The paint’s not perfect and it’s got some marks (most of which should buff out), but it looks great for the age.
So as you can see, this thing is not perfect. I bought it that way and I’ve put some work in to improve it. My plan was to keep this thing forever, but alas, life changes so plans do too.
Included in sale is the original cross bars on the roof, a new steering gear box, fluids for engine and transmission, and a few smaller parts.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
