I am the third owner of this low-mileage truck and have owned it since 2018 when it had 120,000 miles. It has been dependable, a joy to use on snowy roads, and one of my favorite vehicles I've owned. It's been used as my main driver to work, for DIY projects, and yard work.
I bought a new car a month ago and had the goal of turning the truck into a dedicated camping rig but alas, I don't have time to make it happen. I'm looking to sell it to someone who is looking for a dependable work truck, camping vehicle, or who likes this generation of Tundra. The vehicle has a lot to love and a few issues to know about if you're interested in buying:
Good things about it:
Low miles for this generation at 168,000
Has never had a fluid leak that I've noticed.
Interior is in great shape.
Truck was ordered with the stock tow package so it has a transmission cooler in front of the radiator. This prevents it from getting the transmission issue where the transmission fluid mixes with the engine oil.
Truck qualifies for the frame replacement safety recall BZD/BXD that I've been told by Toyota is open-ended and has no time limit. The frame has not been replaced on this vehicle yet because the rust is surface only at this point. If it does get a rust perforation of 10mm, it would qualify for a new frame, which would be awesome if the next owner could get it done.
I have regular maintenance records since I've owned it as well as a few larger maintenance items:
Replaced timing belt at 120,000
Replaced fuel pump at 150,000
Replaced front brake calipers and pads in 2020
Replaced left catalytic converter in 2023
Replaced rear leaf springs earlier this year
Bad things:
Has clear coat issues on many parts of the truck. Sadly, an issue with all green Toyotas from this time period.
Roof is starting to show rust where the clear coat has peeled off. Will need to be mitigated if you want to keep the vehicle for a long time.
The third tail light above the cab lets water in when it rains heavily. You'll know it when you get a drip from the sunglasses holder. I've had it parked in a garage so haven't addressed it, but it will need to be if parked outside.
The frame has rust but there is no structural rust. I've had it inspected by Toyota twice trying to get a frame replacement, most recently early this year.
AC compressor makes noises when idling.
There is a heat shield rattle when idling in drive.
Since I got the catalytic converter replaced, the noise from the exhaust is louder than it used to be when you put a lot of pressure on the accelerator. It will need to get checked out.
It has always passed emissions, but registration expired last month when I bought a new vehicle. I will get the emissions tested before selling and you can use that to register it.
