Guts and glory
The first Willys Jeep was designed in WWII after the U.S. Army asked manufacturers to design a lightweight reconnaissance vehicle. One of the few companies that responded to Uncle Sam’s call was Willys-Overland. Once a prototype was released, it was nicknamed the Quad because of its special 4x4 feature — a feature that stuck with later Jeep models.
Throughout the rest of the 1940s, each Willys iteration progressed its off-roading capabilities and customizations to aid in wartime efforts. Jeeps were thought of as loyal companions with their ability — and guts — to go anywhere, carry equipment and remain reliable for soldiers. Jeeps were so loved that one was even given a purple heart.
After the war, Jeep transitioned its legendary capabilities to civilian use in the farming and recreational industries. It became an industrial powerhouse, capable of navigating rough terrain and hauling weight that other vehicles couldn’t.

2023 Willys Edition electrifies a timeless powerhouse
Each model includes modern off-road upgrades combined with hints of original 1940s style to set this vehicle apart. There are five different models to choose from:

The grills on the front resemble the original rugged design but have an eye-catching, modern black finish. The low-open doors have a rounded edge similar to the original styles, giving that iconic freedom-to-roam feeling. The vintage-style Willys logo on the hood and the 4x4 sticker on the rear transport the driver back to a time of ingenuity. Check out Jeep listings
Like last year’s model, the 2023 Willys Editions boast 32-inch mud-terrain tires, Trac-Lok Limited-Slip Rear Differential and steel rock rails. Epic amounts of traction and protection make this perfect for the red-rock crawling, mud traversing and snowstorm driving Utahn. This year, however, Willys steps it up a notch by adding the Wrangler Willys 4xe — adding to Jeep’s line of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

If only the 1940s Willys Jeep could see its future
Similar to other 2023 Wrangler 4xe editions, the Willys Wrangler 4xe offers convenience in low-traction and rugged terrain with:
375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque
Anti-spin differential rear axle
Battery charge options as low as two hours
Hybrid power gets you up to 49 mpg or 370 miles of driving
Three e-Select driving modes: Hybrid Mode, Electric Mode, ESave Mode
Here in Utah, there are plenty of mountains, sand dunes and farmland that make it necessary for us Utahns to have rugged and reliable vehicles. The Willys 2023 Edition reminds us that Jeep vehicles have been reliable in rough terrain and under rough conditions from day one.
