When searching for a used car, there’s one factor everyone should consider first: title type. It’s a crucial piece of information because it could affect the value of the vehicle, as well as your ability to finance and insure the car.

On KSL Cars, you can search for vehicles by title type, an option you won’t find on most other for-sale-by-owner car sites. Not only does knowing the title type let you shop with greater confidence, it helps us cut down on fraud.

Whether you’re looking for a used car from a private seller or a dealership, filtering your search by Title Type shows you the listings you want. All vehicles listed on KSL must include the title type, so you’ll see all the vehicles that match your criteria and none of the ones that don’t.

Shop with greater transparency on KSL Cars

Unlike other online for-sale-by-owner marketplaces, such as Facebook and Craigslist, buyers on KSL Cars don’t have to rely solely on the seller’s word (or guess) when it comes to a vehicle’s title type.

All sellers must include the VIN and title type whenever they create a listing on KSL. For an added layer of safety, we’ve partnered with a third party to check if the title type entered by the seller matches available third-party data.

KSL Cars offers this free data-point service on every listing. It’s another way we’re increasing transparency, helping buyers shop for used cars with greater confidence and reducing the potential for fraud.

Note: Because new vehicles don’t have a title yet, they will appear alongside used car listings under the Clean Title filter.

Add a Carfax report for a bigger picture

While important, the third-party check is only one piece of the puzzle. If you want a more comprehensive picture of a used car you’re considering, you’ll appreciate a Carfax Vehicle History Report.

On every listing on KSL Cars, you can quickly purchase the report to learn about any accidents, when services were completed and the number of owners reported to Carfax. Together, KSL’s title check and Carfax report give you a more complete snapshot of the car you’re considering.

Why shop KSL Cars today

KSL Cars not only gives private sellers a free place to list their cars in the local community, we also want to help you shop more safely. Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are also free, but neither offers a third-party title check, access to a vehicle history report or the ability to filter by title type.

Shopping without knowing a vehicle’s title status can be risky. For example, a vehicle once considered a lemon could look perfectly fine, but it might not run well.

On KSL’s Title Type filter, all vehicle title types are listed. Start your search by choosing the title status you’re looking for: clean or branded. You’ll only be shown cars from the category you select.

KSL Cars is built for the Mountain West, serving as the local marketplace with both a Title Type filter and third-party check.

Find the car you want with KSL’s Title Type filter

As you search used cars for sale, you no longer have to shop in the dark or rely solely on a seller’s honesty or knowledge regarding title type. On KSL Cars, every listing must include a VIN and title type. That information will go through our third-party data check to be sure the title type matches third-party data.

In just one tap, you can narrow your search for vehicles based on title type on all listings, from both private sellers and dealerships. And with KSL’s third-party title check, you can feel more confident about getting the vehicle you’re searching for before you reach out to the seller.

KSL Cars partners with a third party to check that the title type listed by the seller matches third-party data. Fine-tune your search for used cars with our Title Type filter. Select Clean Title and you’ll only see listings with clean titles. Be sure to review the title before purchasing as a precaution.

How can I avoid scammers on KSL Cars?

How do I know if the odometer reading is correct?

Odometer rollback is a scammer tactic to trick people into paying more for a used car. Based on the VIN, a Carfax report looks at records such as registration, service records and inspections to determine if the odometer readings are consistent or if there are timeline discrepancies.
