Brand-new for 2022, the Audi e-tron GT is making some waves in the electric vehicle scene. Sharing the same platform as the Porsche Taycan, the e-tron GT is a stunner from the outside and an absolute rocket off the line. Its comfortable and stylish interior comes with user-friendly tech that makes driving it a breeze — but its driving range and price tag may be a turn off for some buyers. KSL Cars spent a week with the 2022 Audi e-tron GT Quattro to determine if the sporty sedan is worth six figures.

And if you want bi-color design wheels, rear-wheel steering, power steering plus and a mix of other design upgrades, the Performance Package adds $6,000 to the price.

Our Prestige e-tron GT came with the Full Leather Interior Package and the Performance Package. Including the cost of the special Tactical Green Metallic color and the destination charge, the total was $118,740.

Performance

With the price tag, drivers will undoubtedly want to know if it delivers on performance. The good news is that the Audi e-tron GT has award-winning performance, so you won’t be disappointed. This EV is fast, but it doesn’t sacrifice smooth handling for speed.

Drivetrain

As previously mentioned, each Audi e-tron GT comes with a 93 kWh battery pack paired to a dual-electric motor setup with all-wheel drive. The standard e-tron GT produces 469 horsepower — or 522 if you enable boost mode. The RS e-tron GT produces 590 horsepower, but with boost mode that climbs to 637. Speed and power aside, the e-tron GT also puts out a satisfying, almost rocket-like sound when you mash the throttle. Audi must be proud of this feature because you can listen to it on their website, with a promise that “When you hear it, you’ll know.”

Battery Range

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT has an Environmental Protection Agency-estimated 81/83/82 mpg equivalent in the city, highway and combined. The RS version is just slightly below that with a combined 81 mpg equivalent.

Acceleration and Handling

The Audi e-tron GT gets top marks for both acceleration and handling — although we learned the hard way not to punch the pedal too hard if you’re towing motion-sickness-prone passengers. Despite weighing more than 5,000 pounds, this EV catapults from 0 to 60 mph in just under four seconds. And if you opt for the RS trim, that improves to 2.9 seconds, according to Car and Driver. We took corners and turns with no body roll whatsoever, which was an impressive feat for something so heavy.

Braking

Considering the heft of this electric sports sedan, the braking is phenomenal. As quickly as it gets up to speed, you can bring it to a halt with the brake pedal. Our Prestige tester brakes were impressively responsive. Unlike some other EVs, this one didn’t come with a one-pedal driving option. But we didn’t miss it.

Interior Comfort and Convenience

Audi built the e-tron GT with comfort in mind, offering an array of interior design features and modern conveniences that were both visually and physically appealing. From the digital cockpit instrument cluster to the Nappa leather seats with honeycomb stitching and smooth-riding adaptive air suspension, it has a lot to brag about. The only downside is a lack of storage space.

Seats

Our tester came with heated and ventilated front seats as well as heated seats in the back. But temperature was just one part of the comfort equation. Taking things to the next level of luxury, we also had massaging front seats — though we rarely took advantage of this feature. The e-tron GT will fit five passengers in a pinch, but taller passengers will note a slight lack of head and leg room thanks to the EV’s coupe design. If you happen to be toting around small children, the second row also has car seat latch connectors on the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the middle seat.

Climate Control

Since we were driving in wintry conditions, we mostly kept things toasty inside the e-tron GT and were happy at how quickly things warmed up once we cranked the heat. Though head and leg room was slightly more limited in the back, rear passengers had the benefit of tri-zone climate control to keep things at a comfortable temperature in case the high heat up front was too much.

Cargo Space and Cabin Storage

If there’s one area (aside from price) where the Audi e-tron GT might get less than stellar marks, it’s in cargo space and cabin storage. Because of its tight, compact, sporty design, you aren’t left with a lot of extra space to stow your stuff. The rear trunk has 9.2 cubic feet of storage space, while the “frunk” adds 1.8 cubic feet more for a grand total of about 11 cubic feet of space. If this is your road trip car, pack light.

Infotainment System

Audi’s infotainment system is as user-friendly as it gets. The 10.1-inch touch screen is responsive and easy to quickly navigate. It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB ports, a subscription-based WiFi hotspot and an available Bang & Olufsen system. Even though the screen is easily within reach of the driver, steering wheel buttons for the infotainment system eliminate the need to take your eyes off the road while driving. And in case you don’t want to flip through the digital screen, the e-tron GT also has physical buttons to manage your climate control settings.

Exterior Appearance and Functionality

In terms of styling and aesthetics, we award the 2022 Audi e-tron GT an A-plus because it’s arguably one of the best looking EVs on the market. The sheer curb appeal commanded the attention of neighbors, friends and family members who were all eager to hop in for a ride. Few cars have made us feel so cool. The Tactical Green Metallic paint job and blacked-out grille gave our tester a bold, imposing look, but it wasn’t over the top. Luckily, it didn’t just look good — it got the job done, too.

Wheels

With the Performance Package, our tester had 20-inch 5-double-spoke design wheels, with a bi-color black finish wrapped in summer tires. They looked great and seemed to muffle road noise well, though the double-paned glass certainly did its part to keep the cabin quiet.

Lights and Turn Signals

When we unlocked our e-tron GT tester, the LED headlamps put on a little show. We had great visibility at night thanks to the Matrix-design LED headlights with high beam assist and the Performance Package Audi laser light, which activates at speeds over 43.5 mph. If other cars are within range, this powers off automatically. All lights and turn signals functioned as expected and completed the overall cool, sporty aesthetic on the exterior.

Front and Rear Windshield

Front windshield visibility was fantastic, but the rear view was a bit restricted. However, the camera system more than makes up for this, so it wasn’t a problem.

Cameras and Side Mirrors

These days, a 360-degree camera system feels like a necessity, no matter what car you’re driving. Not only was our tester equipped with all the camera angles we could possibly want, but we also noticed that the camera view would slightly turn as we turned the wheel. The side view mirrors also had blind spot monitoring, which came in handy.

Safety

As of this writing, neither the National Highway Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has rated the new e-tron GT. But since Audi has a reputation for offering some of the safest cars on the market, you can expect the e-tron GT to follow suit.

Features

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT comes with a wide array of standard safety features. These include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Advanced airbag protection system with 10 airbags
  • Lane departure warning
  • Audi side assist (blind spot warning)
  • Rear cross-traffic warning
  • Available 360-degree camera system

Awards and Ratings

As far as bragging rights go, the Audi e-tron GT drove off with the World Performance Car award from the 2022 World Car Awards. It was also nominated in the World Electric Vehicle of the Year and the World Car Design of the Year categories.

Final Impression

One could argue that the 2022 Audi e-tron GT should have a slightly longer range for the price and that the second row and cargo areas are slightly lacking for space. But those critiques aside, it’s hard not to love this sporty and speedy EV. Drivers of all skill levels can hop behind the wheel with confidence because it’s easy to handle and navigate from the inside out. If you’re on the hunt for a stylish and capable EV and you’ve got a good-sized budget, this one doesn’t just deserve a second look — it demands it.
