The 2025 Range Rover Velar is secretly the best Land Rover you can buy
Discussed in this article
If you’ve ever admired a Land Rover Range Rover from afar but didn’t need the full-size experience — or cost — the 2025 Range Rover Velar might just be your ideal match. Nestled in the middle of the Land Rover Range Rover lineup — with its smaller sibling, the Evoque, on one side and the Rover Rover Sport on the other — the Velar is the brand’s design forward, tech savvy middle child. And in many cases, it’s the most compelling one. Just get the bigger engine.

A design-first statement piece
Let’s get one thing straight: The Velar turns heads. This SUV has long been praised as one of the most stylish in its class, and the 2025 model only sharpens that reputation.
With flush door handles, a clean side profile and Land Rover’s signature sloping roof, it’s a vehicle that feels just as at home outside a fine art museum as it does in a Park City parking lot. The refreshed grille and updated lighting design give it an even more polished, high-end look.

Luxury meets minimalism inside
Step inside and you’re greeted by an elegantly simplified cabin — emphasis on the simple. The centerpiece is a new, simple touchscreen that houses Range Rover’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system. It’s fancy and there’s a bit of a learning curve to get used to.
However, the clutter is gone, as are the buttons. It’s ultimately a serene, upscale environment featuring top-tier available materials such as Windsor leather and sustainable Ultrafabrics. If design and style are your thing, you will love the Velar’s interior.
Heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic moonroof and active noise cancellation transformed our commute into a spa on wheels.

Perfectly sized for real life
The Velar occupies a sweet spot in the Land Rover lineup. It’s “just-right” sized, nimble and spritely enough to be a perfect daily driver while still offering a good amount of passenger and cargo space. Whether you’re navigating tight city streets, hauling kids and gear or just running errands, the Velar never feels like too much of a vehicle.

Quiet, composed driving experience
While the Velar isn’t going to be your go-to off-roader like the larger Land Rover siblings, it offers a refined ride that makes every trip enjoyable. This was, in our experience, partly due to the $2,275 Dynamic Handling Package, which included configurable dynamics and electronic air suspension, in addition to other goodies. The Velar handles road imperfections with poise and delivers a smooth, quiet drive.
We only wish it had more power. Our tester was fitted with the turbocharged 4-cylinder, which produced a paltry 247 horsepower. Our recommendation? Spring for the P400 engine, which is a turbocharged, supercharged inline 6-cylinder motor that produces 395 horsepower, and is much better suited to this SUV’s personality.

It’s a Range Rover — just the right amount of one
Let’s be honest, part of the reason people buy a Range Rover is the badge. It carries a certain status and presence that few other badges can match. The Velar gives you that prestige with a bit more subtlety. It has that signature, supermodel styling and feel of the brand, but in a more approachable, city friendly format.
For drivers who want luxury, tech and modern style — but don’t need a third row or off-road armor — the Velar hits the mark. Just be sure to opt for the more powerful engine.

Final thoughts
The 2025 Range Rover Velar isn’t the biggest or most rugged Land Rover you can buy, but it might be the one that makes the most sense. As with the rest of the Rover lineup, it doesn’t come cheap. Our tester’s price, after options, ballooned to $76,115.
If you’re willing to pay for it, with its design-forward approach and comfortable and minimalist interior, the Velar delivers some pretty great everyday elegance without excess. In other words, if you’re after a stylish luxury vehicle that makes a statement without shouting, the Velar might be calling your name.
