Whether you’re in the market for a new car or just like to admire fine vehicles, head to the Mountain America Expo Center January 12-15 for the 2024 Utah International Auto Expo. “This is your chance to shop a bunch of different brands and cars in one setting, all while being left alone,” said Brian Moody, executive editor for AutoTrader and Kelley Blue Book. “It’s indoors, it’s warm and fun. If you want to get a lot of research done in one place, this is the time.”
Tickets to the Expo can be purchased in advance; admission is free for children 12 and under with a paying adult. Parking is free. Doors are open Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday and Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Something for everybody
The Expo Center will be filled to the brim, with close to 30 manufacturers represented. “Is there truly something for everybody? Yes,” said Craig Bickmore, executive director of New Car Dealers of Utah.
Bickmore said 2024 is one of the best years to buy a car because of the many available options. Electric vehicles, hybrids and gas vehicles all will be at the Auto Expo, ready for you to check out — pressure-free. “We’re going to have a mix of all kinds of vehicles,” said Bickmore. “You’ll get a much better feel for what kind of car could fit your lifestyle. People who aren’t even in the market are always glad they went.”

In addition to dozens of new car models, there will also be a significant number of specialty vehicles on display. Some of these include Mopar cars, off-roaders from the Utah 4x4 Association, Mustangs from the Northern Utah Mustang Owners Association, and exotics from Automotive Addiction.
“It’s a show,” said Bickmore. “Of course, the new cars are the focus, but at the end of the day it’s a car show and everyone loves seeing cool cars.”

Think you’re not in the market?
Everyone has someone in their life who refuses to buy a new car. They’re perfectly content to drive their 30-year-old junker, chicken wire and all. Tell them they’re missing out. “New cars are safer, better engineered, more efficient and more aware,” said Bickmore. “They are simply better. People need to experience that. I’ve driven all kinds of cars for lots of years. To experience a new car is great in every way. And if new isn’t in your price range … upgrading to a newer car still is better than driving something old.”

Moody agrees. “The technology in new cars is incredible,” he said. ”Apple CarPlay is pretty standard now. Look for comfort features like more high-end sound systems and heated rear seats. Even once rare features like adaptive cruise control are more prevalent.”
And in case you’re worried about affording a new car, 2024 is shaping up to be a pretty good year for incentives and dealer discounts. “Prices are trending down slightly,” Moody said. “Unlike the last couple of years, there’s way more inventory. Incentives are going up significantly. Just in the past few months, there has been a 130% increase in the dollar amount of incentives for new cars.”

Bring the family
Even if you’re not in the market for a new car, you won’t want to miss the 2024 Utah International Auto Expo. At no other time in the year will you have so many cars from so many manufacturers in the same place, without any sales pressure. There will even be cars available for free test drives outside the exposition center.
“My six kids go to the show every year so they can look at what they want next. They’re not going to go to every dealership when shopping. They take this opportunity to check out all their options,” said Bickmore.
“Even if you’re not in the market, you should come,” he said. “Your car may break down, your financial situation may change, you just don’t know. If you use a vehicle, you should go to the show. Why would you miss it? Just come and see it.”
