Get out the cheese and use your tires to spread it with our dance invite inspo.

If a dance invite isn’t a pun, can anyone hear it? That’s right, all those cheesy lines you loved in elementary school, their time has come. The cornier the better. Once you pick your phrase, decorate the car of your date-to-be to make it really dance. See what we mean?

1. Road trip

Lay out a black, plastic tablecloth to make a road (or buy a premade one). Using white or yellow paint or paper, apply thick dotted lines down the center to make two lanes. Place the tablecloth along the walkway or driveway in front of your date’s house. Use poster board and colored paper to make a stoplight; in the lights write words such as ”Prom is a highway. Let’s dance it all night long” or “I’ll never TIRE if you’ll be my date.”

2. Race car

Turn your future date’s vehicle into a race car. Cut giant numbers out of paper or poster board (bonus points for using the date of the dance), then attach them to the hood and doors of the car. Be sure to use high-quality painter’s tape or automotive masking tape so you don’t damage the paint. Hang a black and white checkered banner across the windshield or from the car antenna for a little extra flare. Attach a poster that says, “The thought of prom with you has my heart racing” or “You AUTO be my prom date.”

Dance to the tune of a clever car invite.

3. Hot Wheels

Use black or blue poster board to replicate a Hot Wheels toy package. In a similar font, write “Hey HOTtie, I’d WHEELie like to go to prom with you!” or “You’re WHEELie great. Be my prom date?” Attach the sign to the top edge of the car’s window, with the words just above the car. You want it to look like the car is in the bubble package.

4. Name brands

If the car fits, roll with it. All you’ll need is some chalk paint to write on the window or some poster board.

  • JEEPers, would you be my prom date?

  • I can’t afFORD to miss prom with you!

  • Don’t DODGE the question, will you go to prom?

  • I think we’re HONDA something. Let’s go to prom!

  • It would be Very Wonderful if you’d go to prom with me!

  • TOY-Yoda says to prom with me you should go!

  • I’d give MINI thanks if you’d be my dance date!

5. Car lot

Using five full-size pieces of poster board, write a letter on each: P-R-O-M-?. Get your car owning friends to line up in front of your prospective date’s house. Open the hoods of your cars and attach one poster to each, similar to cars on a sales lot. Honk, ring the doorbell or play a song to get your date’s attention. Repeat for each of your group’s prospective dates. Friends who ask together stay together. Or something like that.

Friends help friends ask dates to the dance.

6. Bumper sticker

Make a (temporary) bumper sticker to attach to your date’s car. Reinvent some popular ones such as “If you’re close enough to read this, you should be my dance date,” “Honk if you want to go to Prom with me” or “Prom date on board?”

7. General motors

If a poster seems like it’s not enough, go ahead and decorate that vehicle to the max. Cover it in sticky notes, wrap it with gift paper or attach balloons to the mirrors, door handles and bumpers. Any general car pun will work for this one. “Don’t stall, say yes to prom!” “Help me out in a clutch, be my prom date!” “Let’s vroom to prom!”

Flowers and candy are just fine, but why not make your promposal really drive home the invitation? See, we did it again.
