Fairview Demolition Derby: Help Design KSL Classifieds' Car!

The Fairview Pioneer Days Demolition Derby is fast approaching, and KSL Classifieds needs your help creating a masterpiece! We’ll take care of destroying it.

Between KSL Cars and KSL Classifieds, there are a lot of hidden gems on our site. Whether you’re looking for furniture or a Ford F-150, KSL Marketplace is filled with diamonds in the rough that might just need some tender lovin’ care to get back to their former glory. But as much as we love TLC, one unlucky car is going to get some TCD (tough cruel disrespect) at the Fairview Pioneer Days Demolition Derby.

But don’t feel too bad — it’s getting a makeover beforehand! And we’re putting you in charge. That’s right, we’re opening up the vote for our demolition derby car design and letting the KSL community decide between four stellar options. What happens to the car after that is up to the contestants in the Fairview Pioneer Days Demolition Derby and our lucky (or not so lucky) driver. Browse some classic Chevy listings

What are the Fairview Pioneer Days?

If you’re not sure what the Fairview Pioneer Days are, they’re part of a multiweek celebration from July 10-24 in Fairview, Utah. With games, events and celebrations throughout, the party culminates on Saturday, July 22, with a demolition derby and a fireworks show in celebration of Pioneer Day. And if you’re not sure what Pioneer Day is, just ask your neighbor. You should also probably get your license plates switched over soon, since you’re clearly new here. Just like Utah’s earliest pioneers probably wore down their fair share of covered wagons, the folks at the demolition derby are going to wreck a whole lot of vehicles. But there’s a lot to enjoy in the days and weeks before we send the KSL Classifieds chariot into battle. Here are just a few of the events you’ll find in the week before the derby:

  • Sand Volleyball Tournament: Saturday, July 15

  • Cornhole Tournament: Monday, July 17

  • Pickleball Tournament: Tuesday, July 18

  • Singles Tennis Tournament: Thursday, July 20

  • Kids Rodeo: Thursday, July 20

  • Doubles Tennis Tournament: Friday, July 21

  • Rodeo: Friday, July 21

  • Fun Run: Saturday, July 22

  • Pioneer Day Parade: Saturday, July 22

  • Vintage Car Show: Saturday, July 22

And that’s all BEFORE the battle of the beater cars on Saturday night. Not to mention the ATV Rodeo on Monday, July 24. Because you might still be all fired up from Saturday’s demo derby, and nothing helps people calm down before the work week like a nice, soothing ATV rodeo. Check out some cars from the 1980s and 1990s

What happens in a demolition derby?

Have you ever been riding bumper cars and wished the stakes were higher? Then you might love driving in a demolition derby. Essentially a full-scale bumper car ride, a demolition derby pits driver against driver as they crash, bump and beat the heck out of each other’s cars until only one is still running.

If you’re scared for the drivers, don’t worry — demolition derby cars have ample padding and there’s a laundry list of safety precautions. And if you’re scared for the cars? Well, for the most part, they’ve lived good long lives, and now they’re ready to go out in glorious combat. They’re like the ancient Norse warriors of the car world, and their eternal reward surely awaits them in Van-halla.

These cars may be on their last legs, but that doesn’t mean they have to look the part. A lot of the fun of any derby is witnessing the complete makeovers the drivers give their vehicles. Last year’s derby saw a PT Cruiser adorned with a giant popsicle, a sedan with a full Mario Kart makeover and a station wagon with stegosaurus spikes (on the top of the car, of course).

Those are some pretty good entries, but with KSL Classifieds in the mix this year, we know we can take the cake, if not in the derby then at least for the Best Paint trophy. After all, most of the entries were probably found on KSL Cars, so we’ve got to show up in a big way. That’s where you come in. See PT Cruisers for sale

Help vote for our design

Our talented designers have been hard at work putting together the look for our car this year. The problem is, they’re too talented, and we’ve got four great designs to choose from. To help us narrow it down, head on over to our Instagram or Facebook page and vote for your favorite design in the comments. Follow our page to see which design wins, then watch that design come to life before it meets its grizzly end this summer.

We’ll be sure to post updates about how the KSL Klunker™ fairs in battle so you can follow along, but nothing beats the real thing. Head on down to Fairview this Pioneer Day and witness the derby in person! With all those other incredible events going on, you won’t be disappointed you made the trip. And be sure to buy your demolition derby tickets online ahead of time to secure your place in the stands. (They sell out quick!)

Not content to sit on the sidelines? Enter yourself in the derby! There are two classes of cars and two sections of the derby — Stock and 90s. In the Stock class you’ll find older cars with heavy modifications. Not to mention a whopping $4,500 prize for the winner. In the 90’s class, you’ll find cars from the 90’s or newer with fewer modifications and a smaller $1,000 prize per heat. But you’ll also find a formidable (and stylish) opponent in the KSL Classifieds vehicle. See 1990s and newer cars for sale

So if you feel like taking us on, just fill out an entry form, pay the participant fee, find a beater car and decorate it however you’d like! Otherwise, you’ve got just a few months to find a cheap, old car. Hmmm, where, oh where, could you find something like that?
