This is a 1989 Blue Star Vanagon. One of 1,500 ever made for one year only. It’s very clean and straight. There are imperfections, but for its age this is a clean example.

I’d like to go over some problems first as I will not misrepresent this van. I want to be as clear and honest as possible as to what I’ve noticed could be fixed. I have no desire to waste anyone’s time and I’ve been misled on vehicles before and that’s a bad feeling I’m not going to reciprocate. I have priced this van accordingly so please don’t waste my time with low ball offers based on these.):

• It’s got a rebuilt title, it is registered and can be registered wherever- it passed safety and emissions. The rebuilt title was from a somewhat recent theft in Portland, a homeless person stole it to live in it then it was found by the police and recovered.
• It probably needs a new battery as I’ve been jumping it the last few times I’ve taken it out on a drive every week or so.
• The speedometer and odometer don’t work (I do have a new one from GoWesty the GPS digital version)
• The power steering bottle (uses ATF fluid) has leaked a little and will begin to squeal if not topped off every few months.
• It’s got an oil leak somewhere, I just top it off every few months and have not tracked it down.
• The shifting at the stick is a bit loose, it shifts into all gears great but it’s like you have to get the hang of where the gear selection is- I believe the guide could be replaced which is a small plastic thing underneath. I replaced the shifting ball and associated parts at the foot of the stick which helps but didn’t really tighten up the selection. Hopefully that makes sense. (I do have the guide piece from GoWesty that should tighten up the selector just haven’t replaced it)
• Literally the only rust on this van is the fender lip of the passenger rear fender. It looks like the paint chipped at one point and let moisture in so it’s bubbling a little, see photos. I guess there are some rock chips too on the front that could be counted as rust, but could be touched up easy.
• The fiberglass bumpers look like they’ve been repaired here and there from some cracks.
• Blower motor for heater vents doesn’t kick on, maybe a fuse or relay I’m not sure.
• When it was stolen the person took the radio deck, the part that clips onto the face that had the screen and buttons so that doesn’t work as I haven’t looked for a replacement.
• Upholstery on the front two seats are a bit worn, see photos.

Tires are about a year old. The motor was rebuilt with AMC heads and runs great. The back bench folds down into a huge bed, and there are two backwards facing seats and a fold up table that all work great. Very fun camper van, great for weekend getaways, daily driving, you name it. This has a manual transmission- bring someone who can drive it or I’ll teach you. This van has mostly sat over the last year, I drive it every few weeks for fun and to run through the gears and keep things moving but it might need a battery as it’s mostly sat. I have 5 Vanagons and am considering the reality that I might be a hoarder and need to put all my love into one or two and pass on the rest for someone else to enjoy and have adventures with. Restored title from when it was stolen then recovered in Portland.
