2008 Toyota Corolla – Extremely Reliable, Well Maintained – $3,900
Selling my 2008 Toyota Corolla with ~201,000 miles. This car has been in my family since new. My grandma bought it brand new from the dealership, and I purchased it from her later. It has been extremely well maintained its entire life.
All regular maintenance has been kept up with:
Consistent oil changes
Belt replacements
Fluid flushes
Brake service
General preventative maintenance
The car has never broken down and has never had any major mechanical issues. It runs and drives great and has been a very dependable commuter car for many years.
Highlights:
Very reliable Toyota drivetrain
Cold AC
Interior is very clean
Nearly new tires (less than ~5,000 miles on them, lots of tread left)
Great gas mileage
Simple, dependable commuter car
Known Issues (being fully transparent):
Tire pressure warning light stays on even though the tire pressures are correct (likely a TPMS sensor).
If the car sits for about a week without being driven, the battery sometimes needs a jump. I believe there may be a small parasitic drain somewhere. The battery has been replaced, but the issue still occasionally happens.
I use a portable jump starter that works great and starts the car immediately when needed. I’ll include the TACKlife portable jump starter with the car.
Cosmetically, it’s an older commuter car:
Dent in the fender above the front wheel well (someone backed into it while it was parked)
Hood has typical rock chips from freeway driving
Roof paint is starting to fade
None of these affect how the car drives.
Overall this is a very dependable car that still has a lot of life left in it.
Asking $3,900
Now for the honest truth about this car.
It’s a Toyota Corolla.
This car is basically the cockroach of automobiles. Long after civilization collapses, this thing will still be driving around with 3 warning lights on and half a tank of gas.
You could probably:
Forget to change the oil for 10,000 miles
Fill the trunk with bricks
Drive it across the desert in July
Or accidentally put the wrong gas in it
…and it would still start up and politely ask if you’d like to go to work again tomorrow.
If reliability had a mascot, it would be a beige Corolla with 200k miles.
If you’re looking for a flashy car, this isn’t it.
If you’re looking for a cheap, incredibly dependable car that will probably outlive us all, this might be the one.
