Living in what is sometimes called the “Golden Age” of cars, many excellent models never seem to have their moment. Be it poor marketing, inappropriate pricing or an unproven formula, these five vehicles — despite their greatness — have yet to receive the love they deserve. Used or new, these underrated cars are begging for your consideration.
2021-2022 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Hatchback
Perhaps the best daily driver on the market today, the new Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Hatchback is everything you could want in a small, stylish wrapper. Its potent four-cylinder engine returns over 30 mpg and boasts 320 pound-feet of torque. A solid all-wheel-drive system and a robust suite of safety features make this hatchback practical for commutes in any season. Yet, it consistently sells in fewer numbers than its competitors. If you are looking for a reliable daily driver, give the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Hatchback a try. You won’t regret it.

2017-2020 Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86
The Subaru BRZ and its twin, the Toyota 86, are among the most misunderstood and underrated cars to hit the market in the past 20 years. Low on power, enthusiasts bemoaned the models’ less than impressive acceleration numbers. However, the twins were never about straight-line acceleration, but rather the driving experience as a whole. If you are looking for a fun, surprisingly practical, lightweight, inexpensive sports car, the BRZ or 86 should be on your shortlist.

1990-2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata
Inexpensive and wildly underrated, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is a brilliant bundle of joy swaddled in style. It remains one of the best-kept secrets for fun in the automotive world. The lightweight convertible is available with rear-wheel drive and a smooth manual transmission. This vehicle isn’t about power; it’s about the thrill of driving. Every moment behind the wheel of a Miata puts a smile on your face.

2008-2021 Fiat 500 Abarth
Essentially the hot-rodded rebellious brother of the Fiat 500, the Abarth looks strange. But its feisty attitude makes this rip-snorting car a blast to drive. Abarth’s hilariously deep and braggadocious exhaust will have you giggling around every corner. And its size makes it a great city driver.

2017-2022 Acura NSX
Following in the footsteps of the original NA1 and NA2 Acura NSXs of the 1990s and 2000s, a 2017-2022 model year NC1 Acura NSX is one of the best supercars that nobody buys. With Lamborghini levels of performance and Honda levels of reliability, the Acura NSX might be one of the most underrated cars of all time. It has never sold well and will be discontinued after 2022. But it is still a compelling alternative to the usual supercar offerings.
These Acura NSX listings are worth a second look.
Whether you’re shopping for something from this list or another make/model, you’re sure to find a car you love on KSL Cars.
