1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper with a Subaru 2.2L engine. Engine had about 90,000 miles when I purchased and I've maybe put on an additional 10,000 miles. Runs really well. Fresh tune up with new spark plugs, wires and ignition coil pack. Just replaced the master cylinder as well. The refrigerator has been deleted. The propane tank has also been deleted and converted to use an onboard canister. Stove works perfectly. 4 speed manual transmission.
Here's a list of upgrades I've done:
-GoWesty bumpers
-Bilstein Extra Heavy Duty front and rear shocks
-Northwesty 3 window canvas
-Powerflex polyurethane bushings-complete set
-GoWesty wheels
-BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain Tires (5 total) Less than 5,000 miles
-Fiamma F45s 10' Awning
-South African front grille
-All weather cover
-Wasser-stopper rain fly
-Kenwood stereo w/Bluetooth
-New battery
-All weather rubber floor mats
This has been a great van and I'm really sad to see it go. I have all service records from the time I've owned it. Hoping someone will get to use it more than we did. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

All brakes ,alternator ,were replaced a few years ago ,new Bosch battery, rings, heads, gaskets, water pump , thermostat , fuel injector hoses , some of
the cooling plenum parts and exhaust parts in the last couple years .
Interior is in very good condition, upholstery is nice and very clean . Canvas top in good shape - no tears . Non Smokers.
The bad :
Table behind driver seat missing.
Seam rust around van needs repaired , seam rust on back door, but I have extra rear door to include just needs painted white.
Runs great. Sky light has a crack in plastic . transmission shifts well but needs to warm up a little in really cold weather to get going , it was rebuilt the first year we had him . Tires have good tread but are cracking with age. Has original spare in carrier .Air conditioning does not work .All the appliances are complete and in good condition and work.Time for a new home to give him a little more attention than we can .

This van is clean! I have put a ton of work into to make it so. Brand new transmission - May 2019. Drives very nice! Custom Rocky Mountain Westy bumper rig with hitch adapter on front and back. Custom exhaust to give it a wee bit more horsepower. The canvas on the pop top is in 99% perfect condition. Everything works, fridge (electric), stove (propane), and the new sink/faucet. All plumbing lines are brand new. Can hook up to city water/power, although I've never actually used that. It has a spot and wiring for an auxiliary battery, but I never installed one. Awning works, although one of the foot mounts on the body of the van is broken, so I just stake the poles into the ground when I set it up. (It's a little hard for me to set it up and put it away by myself, so I didn't pull it out for the photos.) I installed a kill switch on the battery - as pictured. This helps completely cut off anything that would draw on the battery. Great for when the van is parked when it's not being used in the winter.
Other minor flaws: the upholstery on the passenger seat has seen better days, as pictured and hence the seat covers.
The fridge does draw on the battery when the kill switch is not engaged, even if it's set to off. I think that installing an aux battery would help with that.
I cut a hole in the back closet to make shelving, with the intention of making a door that looks like the rest of them. I have all the parts for it, just never got around to it - trim, hinges, latches and the panel for the door. This is actually a really nice feature because in order to access that closet otherwise, you have to pull the table out to open the door, which was a pain.
Other issues:
The mileage is at 104k, but is incorrect as the odometer works only intermittently. The little pin in the back that keeps it turning slips out and therefore doesn't count mileage all the time. I have asked mechanics and collectors about this and they told me not to worry about it since it's technically a vintage vehicle.
Recent work done includes running the motor daily with a BG MOA additive to clean the gunk out of the system. It got about a foot of brand new hoses to seal up vacuum leaks, timing adjustment, and adjusters got adjusted.
I had the mechanic do a courtesy check and these are some things he noted. Needs new fuel lines. They are fine, but original. So for any VW people, you know that's a safety thing. Turn signals recently stopped working, could be a bad ground. The brakes drag a little bit. Radius rod bushings are cracked, but not sagging. Slight oil leak around back of engine - very slow. Engine is dirty from oil and dirt build up. Tires are 8 years old (but tread is still great - I don't put a lot of miles on this van) and only 95 load rated. The steering pulls ever so slightly to the right.
And the thing you want to know about, the salvage title. According to CarFax, the van was in Colorado, then in 2003 a Junk title was issued in Pennsylvania- I think it was stolen. Then it goes back to Colorado with a salvage title. In 2004 a rebuilt title was issued. CarFax also shows a mileage discrepancy in 2016, which clearly a typo that was corrected later.
That being said, this van is in great shape and drives awesome. I am selling because I need to get a new daily driver vehicle and something with A/C so my dog can go places with me. This van will truly be missed! Call/text/email to set up a time to come check it out.

Purchasing this vanagon was one of the best decisions of my life. I have had the time of my life traveling in this vanagon. It needs to go to someone who will love and cherish it the way I have. Also, this is a 2.1L original engine water boxer which means that it is water-cooled, a much more reliable engine, and a bigger engine than any vanagon made between 1980-1986.
I purchased this van almost two years ago from the 2nd owner. The odometer stopped at 133,338 and I have driven it around 20,000 miles all over the western United States. It drove over 2,000 miles in one week with no problems. it also will go 80MPH on the freeway, most vanagons don't. It has never left me stranded, never broken down, and I have done constant preventative maintenance. Below you will find a list of the maintenance schedule, as well as the upgrades I have made.
-Oil changes every 3 months or sooner if I go on trips.
-New gear oil, power steering fluid flush, brake fluid flush, new coolant, oil change, distributor cap, ignition wires, spark plugs, and full tune up ($1000) two weeks ago.
-Go West 16" Alloy Wheels with KO2 Tires ($1600) 70% tread left
-Upgraded Syncro Bilstein Shocks all around ($800)
-Fiamma Awning ($1200)
-GoWesty Auxillary Battery Kit and Brand new Auxiliary Batter ($500)
-Brand New Car Battery ($200)
-All fluids changed, replaced coolant pipes with stainless steel kit, tune up, new oil cooler, 4 new wheel bearings ($3000)
-Aftermarket radiator fan (so it never overheats)
-Interior lights
-Rear Facing back seat mod ($250)
-Spare fuel filter ($12)
-Spare fuel pump ($70)
-Rear Door Struts ($40)
-Spare Distributor ($70)
-Spare Fuse Set ($13)
Also comes with:
-small tool set ($60)
-extra long jumper cables ($50)
-vanagon maintenance and shop manuals ($200)
-tire puncture kit ($50)
-RV power hookup cord ($75)
-spare serpentine belts ($50)
-Other extras and work done that I can't remember right now
I've spent over $10,000 on this van in the last two years just so it will run great for you! I also have all work receipts going back to first owner.
Work that will need to be done eventually:
-replace seals on fuel tank (it will leak gas if you fill it too much
-New A/C compressor needed (ac unit will blow and is fully functional but needs new compressor to be cold)
-front and rear heater blower motors and electrical (forced air heat only right now which works very well)
-very little seam rust right above the propane tank and a little on the back left where the van rubbed one of those posts at gas stations. Also there are some dents/scratches from this.
-roof rack seal
-speedometer/odometer cable ( I have the new speedometer cable $50)
-dash lights (I have them, just need to install $13)
Contact me if you have any more questions.
